Playtonia, one of the leading technology platform providers for eSports in India, successfully concluded the biggest e-Sporting spectacle in the country, the ‘PUBG Campus Championship 2018’. The tournament, targeted at college students was conducted by Playtonia in partnership with Tencent Games & PUBG Corp., the creators of the superhit game ‘Player Unknown’s Battle Ground (PUBG)’.
The INR 50,00,000 Prize Pool championship completely redefined the scale of Indian eSports and set new benchmarks in the ecosystem. The tournament, took part in phases with online qualifiers followed by Semi-finals and finally the top 20 teams were invited to KTPO convention centre in Bengaluru for the grand finale. Launched on 7thSeptember 2018, the tournament recorded an overwhelming response from 250,000 participants. The winning team, “The Terrifying Nightmares” from Mumbai, took home a cash prize of Rs 15,00,000. Oppo mobiles, the sponsors for the event also handed out the Oppo F9 pro phones for everyone who finished in the Top 15.
Playtonia involved over 200 students through its Playtonia Ambassador Program for promoting the championships across 1000 colleges across India. This resulted in extensive response and within a span of 2 weeks, there were around quarter of a million unique registrations for the event.There were close to 10000 individuals who came to the venue to watch the extravaganza unfold and there were over 50000 online viewers across multiple platforms for the finale, thereby setting new standards for mobile gaming tournaments in the near future.
