Shouut, a social discovery app by Giant Tech Labs Pvt. Ltd, has announced today that it has secured $500,000 in angel funding from a high net-worth individual angel investor, based in India. The funding, representing one of the largest deals in the angel round in India, reflects Shouut abilities in the app ecosystem.
Shouut is a Fun, Easy & Intelligent Local to Local Discovery and Proximity marketing app. For users, Shouut enables discovery of amazing places, events and offers around the users’ location. For businesses, Shouut enables amplification of business deals to users around their business location.
The idea of Shouut was conceptualised when its founder, Praveer Kochhar, on a visit to a local market in Delhi, observed a hawker announcing special rewards to passers-by and the attention that he was creating doing proximity selling. It dawned that most retail businesses needed a platform to attract customers from the immediate catchment area and there was no media platform to provide an end-to-end epxerience from discovery to fulfilment. It took about 10 months to develop the product and Shouut finally took shape in Feb 2016 in the form of an Android app. Shouut is presently associated with some of the top brands in the retail space like Shoppers Stop, Croma, Reliance Digital, DLF Promenade, Benetton and many more.

Shouut aggregates from over 150 expert bloggers, travel writers, publications and experience providers to generate content on the platform and has more than 25,000 recommendations across categories, which enable discovery in over 1100 towns in India. Some of the premium content partners are Lonely Planet India magazine, So Delhi, The Daily Pao and Kunzum Travels.
Shouut has recently rolled out a new program called Shout Fund – a platform that provides bloggers, travellers, and passionate people to discover their city or the country. In its first leg, the company is pledging INR 10 million and aims to fund over 2000 such ideas.
The key focus of the initiative is to source content recommendations across the country and also to enable passionate people to live their dreams. The company is also working towards bringing brands on board to increase the total funding kitty for this initiative.
