  1. NIIT-University-Vice-President-Parimal-MandkeWhy it is important to be digitally savvy and how education can help?

COVID has accelerated digital transformation making technology an essential part of our lives.  It has changed the way we live and work. With Work from Home (WHF) and hybrid working models, most organizations today need employees who are digitally savvy. Being updated with the latest technology trends is of utmost importance in order to advance in career.  Additionally, with most operations and business processes moving online, organizations need professionals who are well-versed in new-age technologies like cyber security, data science, AI and ML. Universities should therefore understand the tech talent requirement of the industry and offer courses that prepare students for the world of work.

At NIIT University, we work closely with the industry to design new-age technology programs that are aligned with the skills required by organizations today. Through our Industry Practice program, students are exposed to the real-world work. The focus is on creating agile professionals who can apply their knowledge to real-life situations.

  1. How can new-age technology courses help the industry address the skill gap while offering challenging careers to students?

Going forward, jobs in software and IT, Digital marketing, and Data and Financial Analysis will see a huge surge. According to a recent report by Nasscom-Zinnov, India is projected to face a shortage of 14-19 lakh tech professionals by 2026. Therefore, in the post-modern world, the focus needs to shift toward building courses around what would be beneficial and relevant ‘tomorrow’ as against ‘today’. A program that is industry-linked and enhances student’s technical skills should be of top priority. By training students in these skills, Universities will create a pool of professionals that the industry demands.

  1. Why is it important to make students recession-proof for future of work?

We live in a world that is dynamic and ever-changing. Students, therefore, should be trained to be agile and adapt to stay ahead of the challenges that they may face. An economic recession might affect a student’s field of choice, but it is important to be a life-long learner to be able to adapt and survive in any work environment. The best way to make students recession-proof is by helping them identify their interests and aligning those with the skills which are going to be in demand tomorrow. Being technologically updated is of utmost importance. A rise in inflation, effects of the pandemic, and an impending recession may lead to job cuts. However, there is a huge demand for well-skilled and agile employees across the world.
