Indian languages can convert India from ‘Service Consumer’ to ‘Service Provider’: Prof. Dwivedi
“If the number of Indian languages is converted from service consumer to service provider, India can become a power many times greater than it is today.” This view was shared by the Director General of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Prof. Sanjay Dwivedi on the occasion of ‘Hindi Diwas Celebration’ organized by KET’s V.G. Vaze College, Mumbai.
Prof. Dwivedi said that “numbers are our greatest strength” when discussing Hindi’s technological strength, implying that “technology will continue to progress and Hindi will continue to prosper.” However, viewing one as merely a market and delegating development to others is not an ideal situation. He said that if all languages are considered, about one billion people in India will have access to the Internet by 2030. Non-English speakers, mobile phone users, and people living in developed rural areas will make up the majority of these users, who will be willing to pay for online content.
According to Prof. Dwivedi, we must transform India into a knowledge society in addition to making it a technological world power through BPO and outsourcing. In India, technology has the potential to be a long-term driver of social transformation and economic development, and languages will play a key role. According to Prof. Dwivedi, it’s the time of Hindi. In today’s time there is neither a shortage of Hindi content nor readers. A strong side of Hindi is that it has become the language of the economy, which is enough to prove its usefulness at the international level.
