The Hundred: Quick guide to the new 100-ball cricket format

The curtains will be raised tonight from the most-awaited and innovative cricket format, The Hundred. England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) 100-ball cricket competition has been the talk-of-town since it was officially announced in 2019.

The inaugural season begins with Oval Invincibles Women playing against Manchester Originals Women tonight at 11PM IST, and Oval Invincibles Men playing against Manchester Originals Men tomorrow at 11PM IST. A quick guide to the new 100-ball cricket format

1. The Hundred will launch tonight, July 21. 68 matches will be played over five weeks.

2. 100 balls per innings! Whoever scores the most runs wins.

3. Innings progression will be measured by balls instead of overs.

4. The powerplay will be the first 25 balls of a 100-ball innings.

5. 8 teams have been created from 7 cities – Birmingham Phoenix, London Spirit, Manchester Originals, Northern Superchargers, Oval Invincibles,   Southern Brave, Trent Rockets, Welsh Fire

6. A men’s squad and women’s squad will be formed for each team

7. Each team in total have 15 players with a maximum of three overseas stars

8.  Venues: Lord’s, Kennington Oval, Old Trafford, Headingley, Edgbaston, Trent Bridge, Sophia Garden and The Rose Bowl

9. Big tournament = Big players

Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Rashid Khan, Faf du Plessis, Eoin Morgan, Quinton de Kock, Mohammad Amir, Jonny Bairstow, Sunil Narine, Harmanpreet Kaur, Sarah Taylor, Nat Sciver, Shafali Verma, and many more

10. League topper will qualify for the final directly

11. No. 2 and 3 teams will compete in an eliminator to qualify for the final

12. Each match of The Hundred will last two and a half hours
