Magicbricks: Users can chat safely without sharing personal details

Magicbricks launched its ‘Chat’ feature that would allow property seekers or home buyers interact directly with advertisers without sharing their mobile number.

Magicbricks’ integration of ‘Chat’ for Android and iOS users is in line with the commitment to protect the privacy of home buyers, who might hesitate to share their mobile number during the home buying journey.

Commenting on the launch of ‘Chat Feature’, Mr Sudhir Pai, CEO, Magicbricks, said, “As a customer-driven and a customer-obsessed brand, Magicbricks has always listened to and addressed concerns voiced by our users. Sharing mobile numbers with advertisers has always been a deterrent for home buyers during the home buying journey. Buyers were concerned with spam calls, with unsolicited calls & with calls from pesky sellers. The new Chat feature addresses all such concerns. As a progressive business, expect more initiatives from us to reduce user anxiety and make home buying and renting a more pleasurable activity”.

The ‘Chat’ feature would be available as a call to action on the SRP (search result page) and the property detail page. The feature enables buyers to ‘chat’ with sellers and ask for more details of the property without revealing their phone numbers. This should therefore enable buyers to confidently connect with even more sellers without worry of being spammed.

The chat feature has been built on a robust underlying platform and allows buyers and sellers to also share pictures with each other, besides text. As chat history is preserved, it also allows buyers and sellers to also refer to past conversation records and pick up the thread. Chat by its very nature is also asynchronous, allowing a lot more convenience in the conversation. A feature to allow buyers to chat with select market experts is also available and is being rolled out gradually.

Within a week of launch, over 9000 Agents and over 100K unique buyers have adopted the chat feature. Given its strong latent need, this swift adoption has been unsurprising. The chat feature launch comes on the heels of “exclusive listings” which was launched in January this year. As a market leader, Magicbricks will continue to innovate on products and services which address customer needs.
